Chief Marketing and Communications

Sophia Cortez is the Chief of Communications at Reimagine LA Foundation. For over 30 years, Sophia has held several mid-level management roles during her career at Verizon Wireless, managing multi-regional and multi-disciplinary teams. In 2015, she decided to bring her private sector experience to her passion for public service and became a marketing, communications and DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) strategic consultant focusing on projects in areas such as civic engagement, local development and racial and cultural relations. She has served as the DEI and Communication Consultant on the Campaign for Nonprofit Resilience, a partnership of the United Latinx Fund and the Latino Coalition of Los Angeles. She also worked on the People’s Bailout LA initiative co-authored by Council President Emeritus Herb Wesson Jr.’s office and Council President Nury Martinez. This initiative called for a major jobs plan to get Latino and Black Angelenos back to paying jobs in response to the disparate socio-economic impact of COVID19 on vulnerable communities. Sophia holds three advanced degrees spanning from business administration to policy from George Washington University.
